CONNECTICUT — A survey commissioned by a major supermarket chain that serves Connecticut shows that customers are worrying about impressing more in Valentine's Day than the Super Bowl. The final score was Valentine's Day ahead by two touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions.

For the first time in NFL history, the Super Bowl will fall on the day before Valentine's Day, and a recent survey commissioned by Stop & Shop found that if East Coast residents could only celebrate big on one of the two upcoming days, they would choose a romantic Valentine’s Day date for two (58 percent) over watching the game with friends (42 percent).

The survey, which was taken by both men and women, looked at celebration and food preferences. It did not indicate whether respondents were alone or next to a significant other when taking the survey.

Additional findings included:

  • Respondents stated they'd rather spend money on a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner (61 percent) than a killer game-day spread (39 percent)
  • 51 percent said they will be staying home this Valentine’s Day, while 22 percent sent they would go out and 27 percent were still unsure of their plans
  • When it came to indulgences, it was a coin toss as 49 percent said they prefer salty and 51 percent said sweet.
  • For wings, 43% of those surveyed said they prefer mild, 31 recent said they like it hot, 9 percent like them scorching. Somehow, 17 percent said they aren't fans of wings.
  • 59 percent of the people surveyed said they don't consider boneless wings to be wings at all
