Thanksgiving Holiday Prompts Major Change In Vernon Trash Schedule

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Department of Public Works will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday Nov. 28, 2025 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Trash and recycling normally collected on Thursday will be collected a day early — on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Trash and recycling normally collected on Friday will be collected the following Monday — Dec. 1.

If delays occur, residents should leave carts at the curb.

Excess refuse and recycling can be brought to the Vernon Transfer Station, located at 12 Hockanum Boulevard, free of charge (permit and punchcards would not be required) year-round. Normal hours of operation are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
