U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, Family Safe After Bomb Threat At His Home

VERNON, CT — A bomb threat was sent to the Vernon home of U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney on Thanksgiving morning.

Vernon Police Department spokesman Lt. Robert Marra said the threat came in at about 7 a.m. on Thursday. A town of Vernon official received the threat stating there was a bomb at the home of Courtney, Marra said.

The Courtney family was home at the time, officials said.

"The Vernon Police Department worked with Congressman Courtney and his staff to ensure the
Courtneys safety during this investigation," Marra said.

The United States Capital Police, the Hartford Police Bomb Squad and Vernon Police were able to determine there was no bomb on their property. officials said.

Courtney's office released the following statement:

"Early (Thursday) morning, Mr. Courtney"s home was targeted with a bomb threat while he and his family were at home to celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanks to the swift and professional response of Vernon Police Chief Marc Petruzzi and Lieutenant Robert Marra, the United States Capitol Police, and the bomb squad, the Courtneys are safe, and there was no evidence found of a bomb on their property. Joe and Audrey extend their utmost gratitude to the law enforcement officers, whose response should signal to perpetrators that these types of threats will not be tolerated."

Police said The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vernon Police Department at 860-872-9126.
