An example of the danger was illustrated this week, when a brush fire broke out off Interstate 84 in Manchester, not far from the Vernon line. The fire encompassed several acres, spread over a hill and came to within 15 feet of an adjacent neighborhood. It took six Manchester companies and a crew from both Vernon and Tolland an hour-and-half to put it out.
