Fire Damages Wallingford's Covanta Energy Plant
Tuesday, a fire broke out at a trash-to-energy plant at 530 South Cherry Street.

A fire broke out at a Wallingford trash-to-energy plant Tuesday, which took firefighters about two hours to put out and damaged the plant's tipping room.
A fire broke out just after noon on Tuesday at the Covanta Energy Plant in Wallingford, and it took 15 firefighters to put out, according to the New Haven Register. The fire broke out in the tipping room, which is where the garbage is dumped, according to the Register.
No one was hurt in the fire, although the room was damaged, according to the New Haven Register. The investigation into what started the fire is ongoing, but Wallingford Fire Capt. Joseph Czentnar said it is not uncommon for piles of garbage to spontaneously combust, according to the Register.
The plant is located at 530 South Cherry Street in Wallingford.
