Golden Scoop Corporate Championship for Connecticut Food Bank to be Held in September

WALLINGFORD, CT – Connecticut Businesses are invited to show their muscle in the fight to end hunger by joining the Golden Scoop Corporate Championship on Friday, September 23, at the Connecticut Food Bank headquarters and distribution center in Wallingford. The competition will raise funds for Connecticut Food Bank programs and services.

Businesses participating in the event will test their speed and skill packaging bags of pasta for distribution to programs that are part of the Connecticut Food Bank network to feed hungry people in our state. “We are hoping for a strong field and spirited participation in the championship,” said Connecticut Food Bank Corporate Development Manager Michael Davidow. “The winner gets bragging rights for their skill and also for their commitment to solving hunger in Connecticut.”

Davidow said teams registered so far include Stop and Shop and Webster Bank. “We’re hoping to have many of the sectors of Connecticut’s business community represented in the championship.”

Teams of up to 20 members will compete in the championship. Registration is $6,000 per corporate team. “We hope that businesses will step up and demonstrate their leadership on this issue and will, of course, have fun showing it on September 23,” Davidow said. “Someone is going to take that coveted Golden Scoop back to their workplace and we’re all looking forward to the battle for the prize!”

Funds raised at the Golden Scoop Corporate Championship will support Connecticut Food Bank programs and services, providing food through a network of community based hunger relief programs and providing food directly to people in need through its Mobile Pantry, GROW Truck and Kids’ BackPack programs. The Connecticut Food Bank serves six of eight Connecticut counties, where more than 300,000 people are food insecure, meaning they have unreliable access to enough food to meet basic nutritional needs for at least some part of the year.
