Lyman Hall Class of 2013: "We Wish You the Very Best of Fortunes"

Lyman Hall High School Principal David Bryant told the class of 270 graduating seniors that their accomplishments during their four-year high school careers have proven that the number 13 is anything but unlucky.

He said the class has taken more AP tests than any other year, has performed the most community service and has the most varsity scholars of any other graduating class. Even the class president, Carolina Reyes, has 13 letters in her name. 

Reyes delivered a short speech detailing the journey she and her peers have traveled over four years saying that "challenges turned into lessons learned" and "acquaintances turned into best friends."

Reyes advised her peers that, "the stresses of growing up will make your spirit stronger."

Class treasurer Jeffrey Zakrzewski explained that because the class has grown up using technology to connect, his classmates should look for Facebook status changes from single to engaged and married and look for #LH2013Reunion in 10 years or so on Twitter.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Menzo compared life to everyone's favorite food — pizza. Menzo said above all else you have to start with a good crust. He said you need good ingredients in the dough, like education and friends and a support network. And sometimes dough needs some kneading or a lot of kneading to make it a good dough. And it has to rise and it has to grow. 

Menzo said Wallingford's schools, including Lyman Hall, have given the students all they need for great dough, and the rest of the pizza is up to them. 

"Now it's your turn to put the toppings on it. Pizza's only good with a few toppings on it ... you have to be very choosy," he said.
