Man Burglarized Store, Tried To Break Into Deli: Wallingford Police
A man burglarized a convenience store six minutes after he tried to break into a deli in Wallingford, according to police.
WALLINGFORD, CT — A New Jersey man is accused of burglarizing a convenience store and trying to break into a deli early Monday morning in Wallingford, according to police.
Police responded around 1:40 a.m. on April 21 to an alarm company call reporting a break-in at Checkers Convenience Store at 99 North Colony Road, according to Officer Alex Torres.
Torres said patrol officers arrived and found broken glass at the scene. A witness told police that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans was carrying a cash register drawer and fled the store on foot toward Church Street, according to Torres.

Police conducted a canvass of the area and found 63-year-old Jeffrey Nicholson lying on the ground in a yard on Meadow Street, according to Torres.
Torres said Nicholson had the cash register drawer, which contained $100, by his feet and was immediately apprehended.

Further investigation found that six minutes before Nicholson broke into Checkers, he tried to break the front door of Rosa’s Deli at 57 North Colony Road, but wasn’t able to enter, according to Torres.
Nicholson, of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief, criminal attempt at third-degree burglary, and sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a non-surety bond with a court date of May 23, according to Torres.
