Obituary: Daniel F. Roche, 96, of Wallingford

Daniel was an avid music enthusiast, Red Sox fan and devoted family man. He worked many years as a carpenter.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Daniel F. Roche, 96, of Wallingford, passed away Monday, September 25, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband of the late Elinor (O’Brien) Roche for 61 years.

He was born in St. John Newfoundland, March 5, 1925, a son of the late Peter and MaryAnn (Malone) Roche and worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He moved to the United States in 1943, settling in Morristown, NJ where he was a volunteer firefighter.

After a few years there, he moved to Meriden, CT to be near his brother Mike. It was this move that led him to meet the love of his life, Elinor.

Dan enjoyed Irish and country music and would frequently sing and tell stories to the delight of all. He loved the Boston Red Sox, visits to Newfoundland, his family, and everyone he met.

Daniel is survived by and will be missed dearly by his children, Joanne Struble and her husband Pete, Kelly Maguder and her husband Scott, Patrick Roche and his wife Melissa; his grandchildren, Danielle Burness and her husband Eric, Matthew Struble and his fiancé Maggie, and Bethany Roche; his great-granddaughter Aubrey; his sister Perpetua (Pet); and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Tommy, Mike, Helen, Walter, Francis (Pete), Paul, Joe, and Phil.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to his wonderful caregiver of five years, Linda, and to the homecare staff of CT Hospice.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Sunday, October 31, from 10am-12pm. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11am at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
