Obituary: Winifred “Freda” McDermott McMahon, 88, of Wallingford
Freda, always proud of her Irish heritage, was heavily involved in the community and will be remembered as a woman of strong faith.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Winifred “Freda” McDermott nee McMahon, 88, of Wallingford, CT passed away peacefully at her home on October 25th with her family by her side.
Freda was born in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland on January 23, 1933, a daughter of the late James and Winifred (McCrave) McMahon. Freda and Michael McDermott were married in Ireland in 1959 and made the brave decision to start their new life in America.
While raising her family, Freda spent time volunteering with the Ladies Guild at the Church of the Resurrection, where she was a devote Catholic. Later in life, Freda worked at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of CT. After her retirement, Freda volunteered at the Masonic Home in Wallingford.
Throughout her life, Freda enjoyed returning to her home country of Ireland with her family. Freda was a proud Silver Jubilarian member of the Pioneers of the Sacred Heart, as well as a member of the New Haven Irish Community Center. She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith who prayed for so many others throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Michael, children Irene (Allen) Jackson of Madison, Maureen (Paul) Parente of Wallingford, Brian (Donna) McDermott of Avon and Barbara Gaia McDermott of Cromwell, her grandchildren Conor & Megan Murphy, Stephanie (Bryant) Phillips, Garrett & Olivia Jackson, Luke McDermott Grandpre and Jack McDermott, great grandchildren Charlee & Chase Phillips, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews living in Ireland.
Freda was predeceased by her infant son Gerard. Also predeceased by her parents, James & Winifred McMahon; sisters, Maureen Smyth and Peggy McMahon and brother, Pat McMahon, all from Co. Louth, Ireland, and her dear friend Anna May McNulty of Wallingford.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 4 pm until 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Saturday Oct 30 directly at the Church of the Resurrection 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford.
