Roofs, Security Topics of Wallingford School Board Meeting

Security and roof projects were the topics of a special meeting Wednesday night of the Wallingford Board of Education, but the bulk of the discussion was closed to the public.

The board initially went into executive session to discuss the "strategy or deployment of security personnel or devices."

The board is considering security upgrades and has already approved upgrading the intercom system in all of the town's schools except for Sheehan High School, which already got the upgrades during repairs of damage due to Hurricane Sandy.

The security upgrades are part of larger plans to make town schools more secure in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings last December.

The Town Council has already signed off on both projects, which total more than $400,000.

After almost an hour in executive session, the board returned to regular session only to immediately go back into executive session with members of the School Roof Building Committee to discuss the contracts for new roofs on the town's elementary schools except for Yalesville, which has a newer roof.

The roofing project began last year with the town's two high schools and middle school, and will be completed this summer.
