School Crossing Guard Injured Trying To Stop Vehicle: Wallingford Police
A school crossing guard was injured after falling while trying to stop a vehicle that was traveling through the intersection, police said.
WALLINGFORD, CT — A school crossing guard was injured after falling while trying to stop a vehicle that was traveling through the intersection near Moses Y. Elementary School last week, according to police.
Police responded around 3:30 p.m. on June 4 to the intersection of Christian Street and North Main Street near Moses Y. Elementary School on a report that a crossing guard may have been struck by a vehicle, according to Lt. Stephen Jaques.
Jaques said arriving officers found the crossing guard with a contusion on his head, surrounded by people in the area.

“After the investigation, we determined that the crossing guard was actively trying to signal to a vehicle traveling through the intersection when he tripped and fell,” Jaques said in an email.
Jaques said no vehicle struck the crossing guard.

The crossing guard was taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to Jaques.
The driver who the crossing guard was signaling to remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Jaques said.
