Wallingford Police Detective Receives Prestigious Award

The detective was honored in Washington, D.C. for his work on a federal case involving a former Wallingford doctor.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford police detective is being recognized for his work on an investigative team in a federal case involving a former Wallingford doctor accused of a drug and health care fraud scheme.

Wallingford police shared in a post on Facebook that Detective Michael Fraenza received the 2025 Inspector General's Award for Excellence.

“He earned this prestigious award for his diligent work on the case United States v. Braylovsky, while serving as a Task Force Officer for the DEA,” police wrote in the post. “Detective Fraenza was honored in a ceremony held today at the Hubert Humphrey Building in Washington, D.C. He was accompanied by Detective Lieutenant William Merriam, who oversees the Investigative Services Unit at the Wallingford Police Department. We are extremely proud of Detective Fraenza's outstanding accomplishment and his commitment to our community.”

Former Wallingford doctor Anatoly Braylovsky, who was also accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill or intimidate a witness, was sentenced to federal prison last May.
