Wallingford Police Lieutenant James Cifarelli Promoted To Captain
Captain Cifarelli is a 14-year veteran of the agency.

The Wallingford Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Lieutenant James Cifarelli to the rank of Captain. Captain Cifarelli is a 14-year veteran of the agency and was previously assigned as the supervisor in charge of the Investigative Services Division, which Lieutenant William Merriam will now oversee. Captain Cifarelli will assume the position of Support Services Captain while Captain Michael Colavolpe will become the Operations Captain.
Captain Cifarelli will also directly supervise the newly formed Professional Standards and Training Division. This new division will be responsible for the maintenance of the agency’s P.O.S.T. Tier III accreditation program, Internal Affairs investigations, coordinating new employee training and orientation, police officer in-service training, and continual P.O.S.T.- mandated review training. The unit will be staffed with a Training Officer, a civilian Accreditation Manager, and a Detective.

With the promotion of Captain Cifarelli, the Wallingford Police Department will for the first time have two Captains operating which will allow the agency to structure itself in the manner it needs to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to the community while providing clear cut lines of responsibility and defined roles to every member of the agency.
