Connecticut And The State Of The Union

Who Connecticut Representatives are bringing as guests and what it says about their priorities.

This evening, President Obama will give the State of the Union Address.Β Here's who Connecticut's Representatives are bringing along and what it says about their key objectives this session:

  • Congressman Joe Courtney (2nd District) will be bringingΒ Katherine Hackett of Moodus. Hackett is anΒ unemployed mother of two U.S,. servicemen, both of whoseΒ unemployment compensation benefits ended December 28. Courtney hopes to extend those benefits.
  • Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (5th District) will be bringing Lori Pelletier, leader ofΒ Connecticut's AFL-CIO.Β Esty's goal is to strengthenΒ U.S.Β manufacturing in hopes of growingΒ middle-class jobs.
  • Congressman Jim Himes (4th District)Β will bringΒ Lucas Codognolla, a Stamford resident, the son of illegal immigrantsΒ and a UConn graduate ,who spearheadedΒ β€œCT Students for a DREAM”  (β€œDevelopment, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors”). Himes hopes to highlight immigration reform.Β Β 
  • Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (3rd District)Β will be bringingΒ Lilly Ledbetter, plaintiff in the Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber. The case, which made its way to theΒ Supreme Court, deals withΒ employment discrimination.Β The Fair Pay Act of 2009 was named for Ledbetter.
  • Congressman John Larson (1st District), will be bringing alongΒ East Hartford Mayor Marcia LeClerc.Β
