Lovely Weather, Lousy Government Shutdown, And Waterford Police Seek Help

Five things to help you plan your day in Waterford, Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

1. It's going to be another gorgeous day. According to Weather.com, we can expect clear sunny skies with a high of 80 degrees and an overnight low of 54 degrees—perfect sleeping weather. The only downside is that you might find yourself sneezing if you have allergies. There's a high pollen alert for our area.

2. People are beginning to feel the effects of the federal government shutdown already as more than 800,000 federal employees, including some 750 civilian employees at the Naval Sub Base in Groton, are now furloughed, federal parks and museums are closed, and parents and children served by many Head Start programs are left in the lurch. The only good news—if you can call it that given the context—is that people's unemployment benefits won't be affected.

3. Town Meetings in Waterford today: Democratic RTM Caucus meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Louise T. Appleby Meeting Room; Flood and Erosion meets at Town Hall Auditorium at 7 p.m.

4. Road Closure: Waterford Department of Public Works is replacing storm drain piping on Daniels Avenue. As a result, Daniels Avenue will be closed from High Street to Middle Street through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to all but emergency vehicles.

5. Waterford Police Seek Assistance identifying a man who is suspected of taking a wallet that was dropped at Hess Gas station over the weekend. If you recognize the man in the photograph shown here, please contact Waterford Police at 860-442-9451, or Officer Matt Fedor at mafedor@waterfordct.org.
