Police wrote in a comment on the post that the dog did have an injury on her front leg.

Police also said in another comment that the dog's owners came to the station and "I think we can say it is Comet...based on the reaction of Comet and the owners. This is good stuff."

Comet, a light-colored golden retriever, had been reported missing Jan. 27 when she was hit by a car, according to a Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control post.

She had been last seen heading toward Waterford Dog Park. "Owner was following a trail of blood from Woodlawn Ave to Savi Ave," animal control wrote in an appeal for the public to be on the lookout for the dog.
