Police: Groton Firefighter Who Killed Himself Under Investigation

Poquonnock Bridge firefighter Tim Devine was told he was being investigated for improper sexual contact with teen boys at the CrossFit gym he owned hours before he fatally shot himself at the University of Connecticut's Avery Point campus, the Hartford Courant is reporting.

The investigations, which spanned multiple agencies, according to the Courant, were confirmed Thursday by Groton City Police Chief Thomas Davoren.

New London State's Attorney Michael Regan confirmed Thursday that there is an ongoing investigation of Devine.

"There is a police investigation and if and when it’s complaited, any investigation they would discuss with us," he said.

Groton Town Police Lt. John Varone said the department could not comment "on whether we had an open investigation or we didn’t.”
