Stormy Weather, Lost and Found, Dancing For a Cause, And Happy New Year!

Five things to help you plan your week in Waterford, September 3-7, 2013.

1. What's the Weather? The cracking thunderstorms and heavy downpours that made for a dreary long Labor Day weekend are still with us today. Weather.com is predicting scattered thunderstorms, especially this afternoon, and a 40 percent chance of rain. It's still going to be hot and muggy, with a high temperature of 78 degrees and an overnight low of 60 degrees. Tonight should be partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of rain.  

2. Municipal Meetings: 

  • The Shellfish Commission meets at Waterford Town Hall Auditorium at 7 p.m. tonight.
  • Flood and Erosion Control Board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waterford Town Hall. 
3. Happy New Year! Rosh Hashanah, one of the high holidays celebrating the beginning of the Jewish calendar, begins at sunset on September 4. Here's what's happening at Waterford's Temple Emanu-El:
4. Homeless to Hopeful. This annual dance is biggest fundraiser of the year for the Homeless Hospitality Center and Covenant Shelter in New London. It will be held this Saturday at New London's Ocean Beach Park Pavilion. 

5. Lost and Found: The following items were posted on Waterford Police Department's Facebook Page. If you believe these items belong to you—and can prove it—or if you have information about the missing item, please contact Waterford Police at (860) 442-9451.

Found:

  • An orange and black Harley-Davidson motorcycle jacket with reflective stripes found by police on Monday
  • A Yamaha YZ quad, white, blue, and black, that Waterford police believe may have been stolen recovered on Saturday. 
Lost: 
  • A purple Razor brand bike that disappeared from the yard of a home by Pleasure Beach.
