The Sun Comes Out, At Sunset Rosh Hashanah Begins
Five things to help you plan your day on Wednesday, September 4, in Waterford.

1. What's the Weather? Just as I was beginning to despair that we may never see the sun again, weather.com is promising us a sunny day today, with a high temperature of 79 degrees and no chance of rain. Tonight will be clear with a low of 62 degrees.
2. Fall Programs from Recreation and Parks: From Aqua Zumba to science exploration for kids, Waterford Recreation and Parks is offering a wonderful range of programs for the fall but these classes tend to fill up quickly, so now's the time to register. Mail-in registration started August 26. Walk-in registration will begin September 9 at the Recreation and Parks Department daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
3. Happy New Year! Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset today. Here's a list of local services celebrating this important Jewish holiday.
4. Road Work: Drivers navigating some of the main routes from Waterford town line through New London last night encountered roads narrowed by traffic cones and a lot of heavy equipment.
The Department of Transportation began road work in New London on September 3 on the following streets: Bank Street from Truman Street to the Waterford town line; Lee Avenue; and Jefferson Avenue from Bank Street to Colman.
Milling work will continue through September 9, with paving to follow from September 9 to 17, and handwork from September 18 to 20. All the work will be done overnight from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. every day except for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
5. Municipal Meeting: Flood and Erosion Control Board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waterford Town Hall.
