Town Meetings, Schooner Festival, and Honoring The Fallen

Five things to help you plan your week in Waterford, September 9-13, 2013.

1. What's the Weather? The forecast looks pretty good for the first half of the week, according to www.weather.com. Today should be sunny and clear, with a high of 70 degrees and an overnight low of 59 degrees.

It's going to heat up as the week goes on, with a high of 78 and a low of 70 degrees predicted for Tuesday, and a high of 83 degrees and a low of 70 degrees Wednesday. Although the chance of rain increases as the week goes on, Thursday is shaping up to be the day you'll really need an umbrella, with a 60 percent chance of rain and the possibility of scattered thunderstorms.

Note: The Zoning Board Of Appeals meeting originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall has been canceled.   

3. Just For Fun ... The first ever Schooner Festival starts this week in Mystic with educational programs that Waterford schools will be taking part in. Then it sails on into New London for three days of fun that includes boat tours, a lighted parade of sail and schooner races in the waters around New London. 

4. Honoring the Fallen: The state’s 12th annual memorial ceremony honoring and celebrating the lives of those killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 and will be held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. 

Flags across the state, meanwhile, remain at half-staff until Staff Sgt. Todd Lobraico, a New Fairfield resident who was killed in action on Thursday, September 5, in Afghanistan, is brought home for burial.
