Waterford Police Issue Stern Message To Walmart Shoppers

WATERFORD, CT — Police reported that they have received 124 theft complaints at Walmart between Nov. 1 and April 28.

One major issue is "under-ringing" at self-checkout lines, where thieves pay for some items before taking unpaid merchandise out of the store.

The Waterford Police Department posted the following on Facebook along with a graphic that states, "Under Ring, Under Arrest":

Between November 1, 2024 and today, we have responded to Wal-Mart 124 times for Larceny complaints (shoplifting/theft).

Many get arrested and issued court dates, many are juveniles and get issued a juvenile summons to court or referred to a local Juvenile Review Board and some get Trespass warnings to never return to Wal-Mart property.

Waterford Wal-Mart has a very skilled and dedicated team of Asset Protection employees who we work with very closely.

Yes, they watch the under-ringing of merchandise at the self-checkouts closely and call police when they have clear evidence of it.
