What Happens to Waterford's Retired Police Cruisers

Three vehicles have been recently retired from the Waterford Police Department fleet. Here is what happens next.

The Waterford Police Department is bidding farewell to three of its vehicles, as they are set for retirement.

"We had a post last week regarding new WPD police vehicles, and one of our officers thought it would be a good idea to tell you all what happens to the 'retired' vehicles," Waterford Police said via Facebook. "These three vehicles have been recently 'retired' from the Waterford Police Department fleet, and are waiting to be brought to the Town Garage for sale at an online auction."

According to police, all Waterford Police cars are set for replacement based on the townwide fleet plan.

"These particular vehicles have 180,000, 130,000, and 123,000 miles on them," police said. "Additionally, they sit and run constantly, so the engine hours are very high. As you can see, the front two vehicles have been stripped of their equipment, which then gets placed into the new cars (emergency lights, etc). The third car in back is awaiting the equipment to be removed/re-used."

Police said that when the decals are taken off and the car is completely devoid of police equipment, they will be auctioned off. The money from those sales will go back into the townwide fleet plan and will go toward another piece of town equipment.
