Company's New West Hartford Site Provides Another Way To Donate Unwanted Items

The Pennsylvania-based company is officially opening its first CT site with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 12.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A new way for area residents to unload their unwanted "stuff" and, potentially, do good for the community will officially open this Thursday in West Hartford.

GreenDrop, based out of Bensalem, Pa., is a national, for-profit company that operates collection sites and offers on-site pickup on behalf of nonprofit partners in some locations.

On Thursday, June 12, GreenDrop will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening at its mobile trailer/office at the shopping plaza at 176 Newington Road, currently home to a Stop & Shop and a Dollar Tree.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting will take place at 12:30 p.m., according to the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.

The West Hartford Plan & Zoning Commission voted 6-0 on Jan. 3, 2024, to approve a special use permit for the operation.

GreenDrop is a professional fundraising company that accepts donations on behalf of the American Red Cross and other organizations.

Those donations are usually gently used clothing, shoes, and household goods.

Those items, then, stock the shelves of various second-hand retail stores whose proceeds benefit various charities like the Red Cross.
