New Trees Coming To West Hartford Center This Fall

The Town of West Hartford's ongoing town center beautification project will include new trees to be planted along the roads there.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — When the dog days of summer cease and mercury cools a bit in the autumn, the Town of West Hartford will have new additions in a prominent neighborhood.

Local officials recently announced that new street trees are coming to West Hartford Center later this fall.

"Street trees play a big role in making West Hartford Center a greener, cooler, and more inviting place," wrote the town in an announcement.

"They provide essential shade, improve air quality, enhance natural beauty, and help manage stormwater."

According to local leaders, this supports the town’s goal to preserve open space and create a "comfortable, welcoming environment—especially on hot summer days."

To that end, West Hartford is utilizing so-called "soil cell" technology in the center.

West Hartford officials explained what "soil cells" are.

" In short, they are transforming how we support urban tree growth and manage stormwater," wrote the town.

"These underground structures—built with reinforced polymer grids—create lightly compacted, nutrient-rich soil beneath sidewalks and streets. That means strong, healthy trees without damaging infrastructure above."
