WEST HARTFORD, CT — A state-based nonprofit and a local defense contractor recently teamed up so one West Hartford military veteran could live more comfortably in his own home.

In a rare weekday project on June 5, the veterans service organization House of Heroes Connecticut assisted a West Hartford veteran in need with the help of about 25 employee volunteers from West Hartford’s TRIUMPH Systems, Electronics & Controls.

provides no-cost home repairs focused on safety and accessibility for military and public safety veterans in need and their surviving spouses.

Berman, 78 and a lifelong resident of West Hartford, is a Vietnam War-era veteran who enlisted in 1969 and served three years as a stock control and accounting specialist, serving mostly in Thailand.

He was honorably discharged in 1972.

The work at the Berman home will include a wide variety of extensive yard maintenance and clean-up tasks to help the veteran access his home more safely.

Garage door and window repairs were on the to-do list, and a crew from Hamden-based A.L. Talmadge Services completed tree trimming on the property.

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Radnor, Pa., TRIUMPH designs, develops,
manufactures, repairs, and provides spare parts for aerospace and defense systems and components.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, House of Heroes Connecticut recognizes, honors, and serves military and public safety veterans and/or their surviving spouses in need for their sacrificial service to America.
