According to the WHPD, a passerby located the pedestrian in the roadway and contacted 911.

Police said officers arrived on the scene to find evidence of a motor vehicle accident, but the offending vehicle was not there.

The pedestrian was then transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Later that afternoon on June 7, the WHPD said the department's investigation resulted in charges against Juan Pablo Novoa, 22, of Cromwell.

Police said Novoa was charged with evading responsibility of serious physical injury, having an obstructed windshield view, and tampering with physical evidence.

According to online court records, Novoa was released from custody on a $500,000 bond and will next appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 14.

It is not yet known if further charges are pending following the death of the victim.

That incident came less than a week after a 63-year-old New Britain man was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of New Britain Avenue and South Main Street.

The motorist involved in that accident, which occurred Sunday night, June 1, stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
