West Hartford Home Badly Damaged In Weekend Fire: WHFD

The fire prompted the fire department to remind residents about smoke/carbon monoxide alarms as well as candles, fire pits, and grills.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A weekend house fire in West Hartford was quickly tended to by firefighters, with the blaze prompting the fire department to issue a warning.

At approximately 10:39 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, crews from the West Hartford Fire Department were dispatched to a reported fire at a residence located at 119 Keeney Ave.

Upon arrival, units reported smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.

According to the WHFD, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, limiting damage primarily to the rear of the building, with minor extension into the home.

The WHFD said the occupants of the residence were able to self-evacuate before the arrival of fire crews. No injuries were reported.

While West Hartford Fire Department crews were operating on scene, mutual aid coverage was provided by UConn Fire, the New Britain Fire Department, and the Newington Fire Department.

AMR provided medical coverage.

"The Department also extends its thanks to ERC (Dispatch), the West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford Public Works, and Eversource personnel who responded to the incident," wrote the WHFD.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office, but does not appear to be suspicious.

"The West Hartford Fire Department reminds residents to ensure that working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are installed on every level of their home," wrote WHFD Deputy Chief Russell Duffy.

"Additionally, when using candles, grills, or fire pits, residents are urged to use caution and ensure all flames are completely extinguished after use."
