West Hartford Senior Center Patio to Be Dedicated to Boardman Reisner

When Frieda Boardman Reisner died in April at age 94, she left a legacy as being the longest-serving volunteer for the West Hartford Senior Center.

To cement that legacy, Boardman’s family donated $9,000 to the town to build the Frieda Reisner Volunteer Memorial Patio at the West Hartford Senior Center at Bishops Corner.

The Town Council on Tuesday voted unanimously - 8-0 - to accept the donation for the patio, which could be open sometime in the fall, according to Gina Marino, director of the West Hartford Senior Center.

Mayor Scott Slifka said that he knew Boardman Reisner from her time working at the senior center and he considered her “a very dear friend.”

“This pays tribute [to her] and creates an everlasting memory [of Boardman Reisner],” Slifka said of the donation and the patio.

Members of Boardman Reisner’s family were on hand at the meeting to provide the check for the donation.

Larry Boardman said that his son, Dr. Adam Boardman, was instrumental in spearheading the effort to have the patio dedicated to his grandmother.

Carol Boardman thanked the town for programs such as Dial-A-Ride, which afforded Boardman Reisner the opportunity to travel to the senior center every day.
