Convicted Felon Found With ‘Ghost Gun,’ Arrested: West Haven Police

Police said the man was found to be in the possession of a loaded "ghost gun" during a traffic stop.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A convicted felon was arrested after police said he was found to be in the possession of a gun during a traffic stop Friday night in West Haven.

Officers assigned to the city’s street crime unit saw a “suspicious vehicle” in the area of Saw Mill Road near the I-95 South entrance ramp around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, according to police.

Police said the officers later conducted a motor vehicle stop on the suspicious vehicle.

During the investigation, police said one of the occupants, 20-year-old Jahkyi Johnson of Bridgeport, was found to be in possession of a gun that was in his waistband.

“This handgun had no serial number which is commonly known as a ‘Ghost Gun,’” police wrote in a news release. “Also, the gun had an extended magazine capable of holding 24 Rounds but only had 18 rounds in it with one round loaded in the chamber.”

Police said Johnson was found to be a convicted felon which prohibits him from possessing a firearm. He also had a prior conviction for firearm-related charges and is currently on the “Deadly Weapon Offender Registry,” according to police.

Johnson was arrested on charges of illegal manufacturing of a firearm, illegal possession of a high capacity magazine, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal possession of ammunition.
