It’s bear season again! Keep bears from visiting your yard by removing or securing food sources such as bird feeders and pet food and keep your grills clean. Motion-sensitive lights can be very helpful in deterring bears from getting too close. Store your garbage in a sturdy structure with a locking door, like a garage or shed, until pickup day. Bears dislike the smell of ammonia, bleach, pine-based cleaners, vinegar, and strong spices like cinnamon and pepper. Leave a radio on outside with talk radio. Scare bears away with loud noises like clapping, banging pots and pans, blowing an air horn, or a Barking Dog Alarm. If a bear enters your home, open doors and windows to allow it to leave the same way it came in. Don't approach the bear or block its escape routes. If the bear won't leave, call the Animal Control Office at 203-268-9172. If the bear is an immediate threat, call 911.
Bring the kids for trick-or-treating to the Halloween-decorated Easton Town Hall on Friday, October 25th, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. All are welcome.

On the subject of fire, the Easton fire department spent two days this week out in the hot sun battling brush fires in Trout Brook Valley with their Weston colleagues. As always, we respect the hard work they do to keep us safe and express our deepest gratitude. The recent death of a firefighter in our state underscores the dangers they face.
