Please plan to attend the Special Town Meeting to be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Samuel Staples Elementary School, 515 Morehouse Road, to discuss the following: 1. Shall the town approve a transfer of $49,522.68 from the undesignated fund balance to the Fiscal Year 2025 Legal budget to cover the shortfall? 2. Shall the town approve a special appropriation of $100,000 from the unassigned fund balance to the Library Capital Account to cover the replacement of the cooling tower? I’m pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Annual Easton Photography Contest: Mr. Kit Briner, of Easton. His photograph “Eclipse #9” is now displayed behind the front desk at Easton Town Hall, just below the clock. The 2025 Contest will be underway shortly! Click HERE for an Entry Form. Entries can be received on November 8-9 at the Easton Town Library. All photographers welcome! The Photography Exhibit will be from November 12, 2025, to January 3, 2026. Winners will be announced at a reception on Saturday, November 22, open to the public. Town Hall is excited to announce that you can now submit service requests online! Simply visit https://app.govwell.com/easton to report any town issues. For emergencies, please do not use the online service—call 9-1-1 immediately.

After numerous complaints, I am happy to report that Altice/Optimum Cable has restored the original channel lineup following feedback from Area Nine Cable Council representatives. The Government Channel is now back on Channel 79.

On October 1st, we proudly kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by raising the flag—a symbol of hope, strength, and awareness. This important initiative reminds us of the courage of those affected by breast cancer and the importance of supporting research, education, and community resources, particularly in regards to early detection. Together, we raise awareness and bring hope.
From Schuyler Sherwood, Director of Emergency Management: The National Fire Protection Association has dedicated this year’s Fire Safety Month to “Charge into Fire Safety,” with a focus on lithium-ion battery safety. The campaign highlights three key safety tips: 1. Purchase only UL- or FM-listed products, 2. Charge devices safely, and 3. Recycle batteries responsibly. Join the ECC on Saturday, October 4th, at 9:00 am for their first 5K walk/race to raise funds for PlayTots classroom enhancements, Teen Center facility updates, and much-needed center maintenance and repairs. Every dollar raised will directly benefit our community. This event is for the entire family, whether a seasoned walker or a person who prefers a leisurely stroll. It’s an opportunity to exercise, connect with the community, and contribute to ECC. Following the race, enjoy kids’ games, music, and bagels and bananas for all walkers/runners. Notre Dame of Easton, located at 640 Morehouse Rd, will be hosting a Blessing of the Animals event in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Saturday, October 4th, at 11:00 am. Bring your furry, feathered, or scaly friends to receive a special blessing and enjoy a fun-filled morning with apple cider from Silverman's, a gelato cart from Shaggy Coos Farm, face painting for the kids, raffle baskets, sweets, desserts, and more. Celebrate the joy of our animals and the life of St. Francis of Assisi in this family-friendly event!

The Easton Police Foundation's “Paws and Pumpkins” Festival is happening on Saturday, October 4th, from 12 pm to 5 pm at the Morehouse fields, 515 Morehouse Road. The festival will feature a Chili Cookoff with prizes, a Cornhole Tournament with prizes, a BINGO tent, and the Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs! The Easton ECC will be there after their 5K walk fundraiser with a bounce house and other goodies. Vendors, music, and a beer and wine tent sponsored by Jones Winery, New England Brewing, Athletic Brewing, and a few still to be named! The Easton Arts Council presents The Hot to Trot Trio as they return on Sunday, October 5, at 3 PM to the Community Room of the Easton Library in their First (But Not Last) FAREWELL TOUR CONCERT. Entitled "You'd Be Surprised," the concert includes old favorites as well as pieces by Irving Berlin and seasonal Halloween numbers. Free admission. Donations for EAC scholarships will be accepted. Join us at the Easton Public Library for the Classic Film Series “The Palm Beach Story” on Tuesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m., directed by Preston Sturges and starring Joel McCrea and Claudette Colbert. Joel McCrea's son, Peter McCrea, will be on hand to discuss the film and his famous father. In addition, Jay Rozgonyi, co-author of the new book “O Brother, What Might Have Been: Three Lost Screenplays”, will discuss his book. He will be accompanied (via Zoom) by his collaborator Tom Sturges, Preston's son. Registration is not required.

REMINDER: The Senior Center will be offering Flu (either dose), Covid, RSV, Tetanus, Shingles, and Pneumonia vaccines on Thursday, October 16th, 7:30 am until noon. Without being political, I would urge you to consider that if you want to be vaccinated, the availability of vaccines may change, so consider taking advantage of this. You must call for an appointment (203) 268-1145 and bring your insurance ID to the appointment. On their first day, approximately 160 shots were given.
