Police Investigate Cell Phone Fraud And Dozens Of Speeding Violations In Redding

Redding police responded to larceny, evading incident and over 40 speeding cases between June 17 and June 22.

REDDING, CT — Local police investigated a range of incidents last week, including cell phone-related fraud, a hit-and-run with property damage, and more than 40 motor vehicle stops for speeding violations across multiple town roads.

A Putnam Park Road resident told Redding police on June 20 that someone had hacked into her cell phone and used the associated number to make unauthorized purchases. The incident is under investigation.

On June 17, officers responded to Sunset Hill Road for a report of a vehicle striking a mailbox and leaving the scene. Police said the same vehicle then hit a nearby utility pole before continuing to drive away. Debris was recovered at the scene, and the case remains open.

Between June 18 and June 22, Redding police issued a series of infractions, warnings and summonses for speeding. The violations occurred on the following roads:

  • June 18: Redding Road (Route 53), Black Rock Turnpike (Route 58)
  • June 19: Newtown Turnpike, Long Ridge Road, Deer Spring Road, Black Rock Turnpike, Poverty Hollow Road
  • June 20: Black Rock Turnpike, Umpawaug Road, Lonetown Road (Route 107), Redding Road (Routes 53 and 107)
  • June 21: Black Rock Turnpike, Cross Highway, Hill Road (Route 107), Newtown Turnpike, Lonetown Road
  • June 22: Simpaug Turnpike, Newtown Turnpike, Redding Road (Routes 53 and 107), Old Mill Road, Umpawaug Road

No injuries were reported in any of the traffic stops, and most resulted in written or verbal warnings.
