Coleytown Middle School Team Places 2nd in Math Competition

An announcement from Westport Public Schools:

Coleytown Middle School Mathcounts team placed second in the Chapter Mathcounts Competition held on Feb. 14, 2015 at the University of Fairfield.

The four members of the team are Joshua Zhang in 8th grade, Victoria Cao in 8th grade, Dawson Byrd in 7th grade, and Charlotte Zhang in 6th grade. The team will advance to the state level competition on March 14 in Hartford. The Coleytown Middle School’s math team is coached by Connie Jones.

The competition contains four rounds: Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown. The Sprint Round has 30 questions, and students have 40 minutes to complete them.

The Target Round consists of 8 questions, which are distributed to the students a pair at a time. Students have 6 minutes to complete each pair of problems. The Team Round has 10 problems for the team to work on together for 20 minutes. The team will be competing for a chance to advance to the national Mathcounts competition to be held in May.
