Delivery Truck Snaps Westport Telephone Pole, Causes Road Closure

A delivery truck backed into a telephone pole, snapping the pole and bringing down power lines, at about 10:30 this morning, according to Captain John Calka.

Calka said a fire was reported that was extinguished by the . There were no reported injuries, but power is out in the general area.

Wilton Road (Route 33) will be closed at Post Rd West (Route 1) and at Kings Highway North for an extended period of time while repairs are made to the pole and wires, Calka said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use caution if they must pass through the area. The Westport Police Department and Westport Fire Department are remaining on scene until repairs are completed.
