Discussion Set In Westport On Impact Of Social Media & Mental Health

WESTPORT, CT — Westport Together, in partnership with Westport Public Schools, is pleased to announce an upcoming event aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of social media's influence on youth. On Wednesday, January 29th at 7:00 PM, the Bedford Middle School Auditorium will host Social Awakening with Max Stossel, a social media strategist and advocate for healthier digital habits.

As social media continues to play an integral role in daily life, from providing news and entertainment to shaping social interactions, there is growing concern about its impact on mental health. Parents, educators, and mental health professionals alike are recognizing the importance of understanding these risks to better support the well-being of young people.

Max Stossel, the founder of Social Awakening, will offer a unique perspective on how social media platforms are designed to be addictive and distracting. Drawing from his experience as a social media strategist, Stossel will shed light on the ways technology affects the minds of children and teens, while providing actionable strategies to help families navigate the challenges of the digital age.

This event is designed to empower families with the knowledge and tools to engage with social media in a positive and informed way. It will cover the risks of social media, how these platforms can be both beneficial and harmful, and how to create healthier digital habits for children and teens.

Max Stossel is an award-winning artist, and the founder of Social Awakening: an organization dedicated to helping young people survive and thrive in the modern world.

Before working in this field, Max was a media strategist with an extensive background in social media. He ran social media for big brands, and later worked for a social media company where he designed some notifications to distract people. He has spent the past seven years speaking with 100,000+ students, parents, and educators around the world about social media’s impact on our lives and creating resources to help manage that impact.
