Metro-North Pedestrian Bridge In Westport Slated For Repairs

The construction will necessitate the temporary closure of the span, which crosses the Saugatuck River.

WESTPORT, CT — Metro-North is scheduled to begin an improvement project on Oct. 27 for the pedestrian bridge over the Saugatuck River near the Westport Train Station, which will require periodic closures of the span, according to officials.

The project, which will include "critical safety repairs," is slated to be completed by Nov. 26. The span connects the train station to Ferry Lane East.

"This construction will require that the bridge be kept in a closed position and will require a deviation of all marine traffic," said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement.

Additionally, the project will also necessitate periodic closures of the pedestrian walkway. Metro-North anticipates having to close the bridge to foot traffic approximately four to six times during the one month anticipated duration of the project. These closures will take place from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. while work is going on.

"Commuters should be aware of these occasional closures during this period and are encouraged to seek alternate routes and/or other means of transportation to the Saugatuck Railroad Station," Prezioso said.
