NY Man Arrested On Criminal Impersonation Charge In Westport: Police

The suspect "had several fraudulent driver's licenses in his possession" in connection with an iPhone scam case, according to authorities.

WESTPORT, CT — A 26-year-old Bronx, New York man was arrested on charges of criminal impersonation and first-degree forgery this week, after Westport police said he was found with "several fraudulent driver’s licenses in his possession."

The discovery of the fake IDs came during an investigation Tuesday into an alleged iPhone scam, where several of the expensive cell phones were fraudulently scheduled for delivery to a home in the Placid Lake Lane area of Westport.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Westport police were alerted about a suspicious vehicle parked on the lane. The vehicle was a black Dodge with New York plates, and inside were two men.

"The investigating officer engaged the individuals in conversation, and they were evasive with answers and reasons for being in the area," Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods wrote in a statement. "The complainant advised that they had fallen victim to a scam where several [iPhones] were scheduled for delivery, and it was suspected that these individuals were waiting to intercept the packages. The driver of the vehicle was ultimately identified as Albert Reyes, but had several fraudulent driver’s licenses in his possession, one of which was in the name of our complainant."

Police took Reyes into custody, and charged him with the two offenses mentioned above, while the passenger in the vehicle was identified by police but was not charged.
