Two-Car Accident Leads to DUI in Westport

While investigating a minor two-car accident on Compo Road South and Thomas Road Sunday night, a Westport police officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on one driver’s breath, police said.

The driver was speaking with slurred speech and had red, glassy eyes, police said. The man was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety at about 7:30 p.m. He refused to submit to the breath test.

Arthur Connelly, of 11 Abbots Lane, Westport, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and following too closely.

Connelly was released after posting a $500 cash bond. He is due in Norwalk Superior Court August 22.
