Westport Scooter Accident Yields DUI

A Westport man was charged with DUI following a police investigation into a scooter accident that occurred in May.

reportedly responded to the intersection of Post Road East and Imperial Avenue for a report of an accident on May 4. 

Police said 32-year-old Thomas Winston, of 37 Saugatuck Avenue, was operating a scooter and was involved in the accident.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Winston was operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, police said. Winston turned himself in and was arrested on a warrant.

Winston was charged with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle in violation of classification of license issued and failure to wear face or eye protection while riding a motorcycle. 

He posted a $2,500 bond and was released. He is due in court July 3.
