NY Woman Charged in Wilton Extortion Case; DUI Stop Reported
Wilton police charge a Brooklyn, NY, woman in a juvenile extortion case; separate DUI stop on Danbury Road leads to charges for Norwalk man.

WILTON, CT – Authorities in Wilton have taken a Brooklyn woman into custody in connection with a financial extortion case involving a juvenile.
According to police, a juvenile reported on May 16, 2024, that they had been coerced into sending money to a person they met on a social media platform. Following an investigation, law enforcement identified Angelique Jimenez, 40, of Brooklyn, N.Y., as a suspect. A warrant was issued by Stamford Superior Court.
On March 10, Jimenez was transferred to the custody of Wilton police from a New York correctional facility on an extraditable warrant. She waived extradition and was transported to Wilton, where she was charged with first-degree larceny. Bond was set at $40,000. Jimenez was later taken to Stamford Superior Court for arraignment the same day.

In a separate incident, Wilton officers conducted a traffic stop on Danbury Road at approximately 2:53 a.m. on March 13. Authorities say the driver, identified as John Smith, 25, of Norwalk, appeared to be impaired after admitting to consuming alcohol before driving. He was unable to complete standardized field sobriety tests to standard and submitted to chemical testing, which showed blood alcohol levels of 0.1125 and 0.1102.
In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.

Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and speeding. He was released after posting 7 percent of his $300 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 28.
