- Despicable Me (looks like the original one, not the sequel recently in theaters) is being shown at Weed Beach at 7:30 p.m. Friday. You do NOT need a beach permit to get in, and there is no charge.
- "MTA Metro-North Railroad will provide 22 extra getaway trains on Friday, August 30, for people who want to leave work early to celebrate the long Labor Day weekend. Because so many people leave work early on Friday, six PM peak trains will be combined into three and 13 late PM peak trains will be cancelled. On Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule." – from an announcement on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority website. - Darien Library's Friday Night Feature film: Secondhand Lions (2003) — rated PG; 1 hr. 49 mins. — plays at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. — Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, and Haley Joel Osment; Rated PG; 109 minutes. Closed captioned for the hearing impaired. "A coming-of-age story about a shy, young boy sent by his irresponsible mother to spend the summer with his wealthy, eccentric uncles in Texas," as the library website describes the movie.
- This weekend, take a "sunset sail" aboard the sloop Soundwaters.
- Saturday: "The 6th annual Blues, Views & BBQ Festival is two full days and nights of smokin' Blues, great food, and family fun in downtown Westport, CT. Fourteen top musical performances include Royal Southern Brotherhood, Cactus, Sisier Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, and more. - Stamford Restaurant Weeks continues through Labor Day. Check out a slew of restaurants serving lunch, dinner or both at lower prices.
- Playland’s last day of the season is Monday Sept. 2 so this weekend is your last chance to enjoy the rides there. They are offering $15 night specials with fireworkds. The fireworks finale is Friday, Aug. 30 at 9:15 p.m. Read more at ryeplayland.org.
