Suspect in Milford Home Invasion Was a Wilton Wahoo Swimmer

Benjamin Prue of Rolesville, N.C., also won swimming awards at Virginia Tech and Southern Connecticut State University, according to the Wilton Bulletin.

 

The man who was shot on July 21 during a on July 21 was a former member of the Wilton Y Wahoo swim team, according to the Wilton Bulletin.

Benjamin Prue of Rolesville, N.C., won numerous awards as a swimmer in Trumbull, and later at Virginia Tech and Southern Connecticut State University, and according to the Bulletin, was listed on Virginia Tech's Web site as being on "the Wilton Y Wahoos 200 and 400 medley relay first-place teams at the YMCA Nationals."

Prue, who allegedly engaged in the home invasion on 66 Point Lookout, was in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital after the homeowner shot him in the chest.

Gerald Mirto, 67, was alerted to the intruder by a noise outside his home, police said. Upon finding a screen to the home forced open, Mirto was reportedly confronted by the suspect. After a struggle, Mirto retreated to the second floor, grabbed his handgun and called 9-1-1, according to the police report.

Mirto returned to the first floor of his residence to find the suspect attempting to steal his television, police said. Mirto pleaded with the man to leave, but the suspect reportedly engaged in a second physical altercation with Mirto. That is when Mirto shot the intruder in the chest, police said.
