Wilton School Board Votes on Political Activism Policy

The policy provides a framework for how the board can address federal and state initiatives.

WILTON, CT — The Wilton School Board unanimously approved a policy regarding activism on Federal and State regulatory issues on May 11. The board unanimously approved policy 1440/1430 "Activism on Federal and State Legislative and Regulatory Issues."

The policy dictates the board will "refrain from actively engaging in national and state legislative and regulatory debates unless an issue has imminent budgetary implication for the Wilton Public Schools, or could directly affect the operation of our schools." The policy also creates a framework for deciding which issues to act on.

During a meeting at the beginning of the school year, which the board prefers be in Mid-November, the board will develop a list of legislative and regulatory priorities, and can choose several courses of action including community outreach and advocacy. The board will also monitor initiatives throughout the year, and consider requests from community members.
