Wilton Updates Motor Vehicle Tax Billing Schedule For 2025

Wilton officials revise motor vehicle tax billing schedule, adjusting due dates & delinquency periods for vehicles registered after October.

WILTON, CT — The Board of Selectmen has approved changes to the supplemental motor vehicle tax billing schedule following new state legislation. The revisions, decided during the March 3 board meeting, will take effect with the 2024 Grand List.

Supplemental motor vehicle taxes apply to vehicles registered or purchased in Wilton between October 2 and September 30. Previously, tax bills for these vehicles were due on January 1, covering only the months of registration. Under the new schedule, due dates vary based on the vehicle’s registration or purchase date.

  • October 2 – April 30 registrations/purchases: Due July 1, delinquent after August 1
  • May registrations/purchases: Due August 1, delinquent after September 1
  • June registrations/purchases: Due August 1, delinquent after October 1
  • July registrations/purchases: Due August 1, delinquent after November 1
  • August registrations/purchases: Due August 1, delinquent after December 1
  • September registrations/purchases: Due August 1, delinquent after January 1

Once a bill becomes delinquent, interest accrues at 1.5% per month, with a minimum charge of $2. Interest is applied on the first of each month.
