Canty Hits the Pavement

The 2012 election is just months away, and local delegates have cast their votes in nominating candidates for state office. For fifth assebly district candidates, that means it's primary season.

Accordingly, democratic candidate Leo Canty has hit the pavement running in an effort gain support heading into August, and he's released a video, narrated and shot by his campaign treasurer, Windsor Deputy Mayor Al Simon, showing off the wheels he hopes will help carry him to victory.

Canty is facing off against Windsor Mayor Don Trinks and Brandon McGee of Hartford, who received the second most votes at the democratic convention.

Canty recently announced a couple of significant milestones since the convention, during which he received the bulk of delegates' votes.

Through November, Canty is done soliciting funds to support his campaign, as he has qualified for public financing.

"I worked for clean elections for many years and am delighted to be able to avoid asking people to help fund my campaign – we need to do all we can to get special interest money out of politics…thus program helps a lot,” Canty said.

Canty was also recently elected to be one of 10 delegates and one alternate to attend and cast their vote for President Barack Obama at the democratic national convention in Spetember.

“I am thrilled to have been selected to attend this convention and honored to be able to cast my vote for Barack Obama  as I did 4 years ago in Denver," said Canty.
