Poll: Are You in Favor of the Dollar Tree Distribution Center?

Dollar Tree has been a hotly contested issue in town meetings over the past week or so. Dollar Tree representatives have been on hand to hear the concerns of some Rainbow residents — residents who feel the company's proposed one-million-square-foot distribution center will have an adverse affect on the quality of life in their neighborhoods.

There has been some support for the residents on behalf of folks sitting on town boards and commissions, support in the form of noting that the residents have valid concerns that should be taken into consideration.

However, there has also been a great deal of acknowledgment of the company's financial investment, and the local impact of that investment. It has been made clear that the town will stand to make millions annually (roughly $3 million over the first four years, and $1.5 million on an annual basis after that), and contribute to the growth of the grand list.

While there are still a few days before Dollar Tree comes before major town boards again, the picture that remains is one in which life in one section of town could be sacrificed for the financial benefit of the town as a whole.

Or the financial benefit of the town could be sacrificed in order to maintain the quality of life for some of its residents.
