1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured In 2-Vehicle Middlebury Crash: Police
The crash occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 84 near Exit 16, according to state police.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — A 72-year-old Naugatuck man was killed early Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Middlebury that left a 64-year-old Tolland man seriously injured, according to Connecticut State Police.
John P. Dowling was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7 a.m. crash, while John F. Dutton was transported to Waterbury Hospital for treatment, state police said in a release. No passengers were in either vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
According to authorities, the crash occurred as Dutton was traveling westbound on I-84 in a 2018 Honda Accord just east of Exit 16, and Dowling was traveling eastbound in a 2021 Subaru Outback.

"Vehicle #2 [Dowling] then traveled over the median of I-84 into the westbound travel lanes striking Vehicle #1 [Dutton]," state police said.
The crash remains under investigation, and state police urge anyone who may have witnessed it to contact Trooper John Augelli #798 at State Police Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2240.
