Boy Saves Another From Drowning In Hop Brook Lake

A 17-year-old saved a 16-year-old from drowning Sunday night.

Middlebury Police and Fire Departments and Hop Brook Park Rangers were preparing to rescue a young boy in danger of drowning in Hop Brook Dam Sunday night when another youth beat them to the save.

According to Middlebury Acting Police Chief Richard Wildman, a 16-year-old boy, whose name has been withheld, was trying to swim across the lake, outside the designated swimming area around 7 p.m. Feet from the opposite shore, he became exhausted and began to go under.

Witnesses nearby contacted the park ranger, however a 17-year-old boy jumped in and was able to pull the drowning boy safely to shore.
