Gainfield Elementary Students and Families Create Mural
Each child at GES participated and placed their own tile into the artwork. The artwork will be on permanent display in the school cafeteria.
Gainfield Elementary School (GES) students and families jointly created a beautiful tile mosaic for the school during the week of May 25, 2016. The theme of the artwork, “Seasons of Gainfield,” features four panels made of tiles and depicts an outdoor scene from the four seasons. The mural highlights special events that regularly occur at the elementary school during those times of the year.
Rachel Drago and Marissa Likar, Co-chairwomen of the Gainfield PTO’s Cultural Arts Committee, organized the project. Working with the Art Spot of Danbury, the PTO, students, and staff worked together in a week-long production event at the school. Each child at GES participated and placed their own tile into the artwork. The artwork will be on permanent display in the school cafeteria.

“The students loved being a part of creating this unique and beautiful piece of artwork. Every time they dine in the cafeteria, it will be a constant reminder of what they can accomplish when they all work together!” said Mary Lou Torre, interim Principal of GES.
“Other than simply creating an inviting piece of artwork, this project was designed to help children learn about goal setting, collaboration, accountability, patience with others, attention to detail and following directions,” said Gina Farra, President of the PTO at GES.
